“The involvement of a serviceman in the shooting that took place on July 12 in Novograd-Volynsky, Zhytomyr region, as a result of which a young child was injured, has been confirmed. […] On July 13, the detainee was given a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, in the deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm, “- said in the message.
The prosecutor’s office noted that the child is in the hospital unconscious, in a consistently serious condition.
The suspect pleaded not guilty. He insists that he “committed the crime through negligence.” The prosecutor’s office intends to petition for the arrest of the man.
“The involvement of this serviceman in committing other grave crimes is being checked,” the department stressed.
According to TSN, the suspect is a counterintelligence colonel of the Ministry of Defense. During a search, two Kalashnikov assault rifles, a Fort-17 pistol, about 100 pieces of ammunition, directional mines and eight anti-tank rocket grenades were found in his car.
The grandmother of the victim Daniel Zhanna Nikitchina told “Channel 5”that a child was injured when a man showed children self-defense techniques.
“The kid took the pistol, and Uncle Sasha began to show how to take it. He leaned over to Dana, and at that moment, when he took the pistol, it turned out that he fired and the bullet hit the child in the side,” she explained.
According to the TV channel, at first the shooter and the child’s father said that the boy was wounded near the river, but later it turned out that this was not true.
The head of the department of anesthesiology of the Novograd-Volynsk hospital, Ivan Kravchenko, said that the boy’s stomach, pancreas, spleen were damaged, the child had lost a lot of blood.
July 12 to the hospital of Novograd-Volynsky, Zhytomyr region delivered a nine-year-old boy with a through gunshot wound to the back. Later him on a helicopter sent to the Kiev hospital “Okhmatdet”.
The next day, the police reported arrest of a suspect – a serviceman from Kiev, an acquaintance of the child’s father, who arrived in Novograd-Volynsky the day before. According to preliminary data from law enforcement officers, the incident occurred due to careless handling of weapons.
On the fact of the incident, criminal proceedings were opened under Art. 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) and Part 1 of Art. 121 (intentional grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
