A new volunteer army appeared in Germany

According to her, the first conscripts begin their service in the basic training units of the base of the armed forces and the air force.

The official noted that the initiative “Your Year for Germany” is an attempt to create a new flexible opportunity to defend Germany and its citizens.

“Many young people are interested in the Bundeswehr, but they do not want to devote their whole lives to this,” the minister explained.

This initiative provides for 7 months of service, of which 3 months will be devoted to intensive training. Volunteers will receive just over € 1,550.

After that, for 6 years, volunteers will have to serve as reservists for 5 months.

At first, it is planned to recruit 1000 interested people annually.

According to the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Defense Peter Tauber, 9 thousand young people have already expressed their interest. Of these, about 20% are women.

Recall German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer stated that the increase in armament costs, primarily associated with national interests. She focused on the growing challenges for the region, in particular, due to Russia’s actions.

Also recently, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that Berlin is closely following Russia’s actions near the Ukrainian border.
