Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon are clarifying the situation surrounding the super-popular photos of the two together at the premiere of “Your Place or Mine.”
Not only did they give candid explanations for why they posed this way, but even Mila Kunis herself joined in on the conversation.
During an appearance on the Today Show, Reese admitted that after the photos became so popular — and fans pointed out how awkward the two looked together — the former That 70s Show actress felt the need to get involved.
Speaking to Hoda Cott and Jenna Bush Hager on The 4th Hour with Hoda and Jenna, the ‘Professional Blonde’ star admitted that she and Ashton “didn’t know each other” before starring in the new Netflix film and although they “learned to be friends” and that definitely explains their posing next to each other on the red carpet.
Reese confessed: “She[Mila Kunis]sent us an email last night saying, ‘You look so awkward on the red carpet together.’
Ashton himself spoke about his wife’s request that the two show more chemistry in a teaser from their upcoming appearance on the Chicks in the Office podcast.
He said: “My wife called me – she texted Reese and I together and it was like, ‘Guys, you need to act like you like each other.’
However, he had good reason to be cautious on the red carpet as he posed with his new co-star.
“The thing is… If I put my arm around her and I’m still friendly with her, it will look like I’m having an affair with her because that’s what the rumor will be… If I stand next to her and put my hands in her pockets so that there is no chance of that being the rumor – the rumor will be that we don’t like each other at all”.
