A New Lake Appears in Kupang City After Tropical Cyclone Seroja

KOMPAS.com – New lake an area of ​​two hectares appeared in RT 014 RW 006, Sikumana Village, Maulafa District, Kupang City, after a natural disaster tropical cyclone storm of sacred lotus struck.

“This lake began to form when a tropical cyclone storm seroja hit this area. On Monday (5/4/2021) morning we saw the water expanding and remembering all agricultural land owned by farmers. The area of ​​standing water is expanding,” said Hendrik Lasa, RT resident 014 RW 006, Kelurahan Sikumana, as reported from Among, Sunday (18/4/2021).

Before becoming a lake, the residents used this location as agricultural land to plant crops.

As a result of the lake, all agricultural crops such as corn, beans, beans and coconuts that are ready to be harvested are all submerged in the water of the newly formed lake.

After decades of living in the area, said Hendrik, he had never experienced anything like this.

“This is the first time this has happened, so we are very worried about a new disaster because the water level continues to increase,” he said.

Batz Sebaneno (38), another local resident, said the same thing.

A number of new springs appeared in the homes of local residents, since the lake was formed two weeks ago.

“We can’t cook in the kitchen anymore because water has appeared in the house since the lake was formed. Even in front of our house there is also a new spring,” he said.
