A new group of people will be able to receive the booster dose starting Tuesday

The Ministry of Health announced that the booster doses would be applied in the same way as the National Vaccination Plan (PNV) began, in stages according to age and comorbidities. Therefore, starting this Tuesday, December 21, the vaccination will begin with a third (or second in the case of Janssen) doses, for people belonging to stage 3 of the PNV.

The population belonging to this group are people between 12 and 59 years old who have some type of comorbidity against covid-19. In addition, officials in charge of citizen protection such as members of the Military Forces and the National Police will be vaccinated.

In the same way, the reinforcement will also be available to the personnel of educational institutions, care for the elderly, the indigenous guard and Maroon guard, as well as the authorities of the health sector at the national, municipal, district and departmental levels.

The Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, mentioned that the application time for the booster will be six months after the last dose, and when the announcement of the opening of booster vaccines was made, he said that “the first group vaccinated for Stage 1 and Stage 2 have already passed six months and, therefore, they would be getting vaccinated as of today (Tuesday, November 23) ”.

That same day the start dates for people in stages 3, 4 and 5. For stage 3 it is this Tuesday as it is characterized by having a moderate risk of presenting a serious condition, dying or being exposed to the virus.

For the fourth stage it will be on January 18 and for the fifth it will open on February 16, 2022; For all stages, the Vaccine Advisory Committee recommends the application of a heterologous vaccine, different from the one previously applied, in order to increase efficacy.

The latest MinSalud vaccinated report showed that 62.31 million vaccines against covid-19 have already been applied, of which 2.63 million doses have been boosters.
