A motorhome hits the slide on the highway

Canton of Friborg

A 51-year-old Italian driver and his family were victims of a motorhome accident on Friday afternoon on the A12 motorway. No one was hurt.

A 51-year-old Italian driver accompanied by a woman (45) and their boys (5, 8 and 12) was driving a motorhome on the A12 motorway from Châtel-St-Denis towards Friborg.

Shortly before the Avry tunnel, while he was traveling in the right lane, following inattention, he struck
the slide of the emergency lane. The vehicle climbed on said slide before overturning
on the left flank. The motorhome slid for a few meters then came to a stop in the middle of the tunnel,
thus obstructing the two traffic lanes. No one was injured in this traffic accident.

Firefighters from the Bulle and Friborg Reinforcement Center secured the vehicle as well as two
gas cylinders and batteries. Subsequently, they neutralized a small amount of hydrocarbons
on the road. The intercantonal service of the motorway network (SIERA) came on site for the
control of the infrastructure which suffered only slight damage.

Disrupted traffic

The A12 motorway between Bulle and Rossens was closed to traffic for 2 hours 40 minutes for the needs of
the intervention. A detour was put in place and the traffic was severely disrupted. The damaged vehicle was repaired by a service garage.
