Doctor Gleb Glebov from the Republican Clinical Infectious Disease Center, located in Zubovo, conducted a live broadcast on social networks with Lilia Selivanova, a pathologist who was one of the first in the country to uncover the pathogenesis of COVID-19. The doctor told the residents of Bashkiria how the new coronavirus infection works, what drugs are used for treatment, and how to protect themselves from the virus.
“I saw an atypical picture of the defeat of the respiratory system. There were very pronounced changes that have their own characteristics. It was originally thought to be a respiratory infection that exclusively affects the lungs. When I performed the first sections, I saw that almost all vessels were totally affected. This is a mystery today, ”said the pathologist.
According to Selivanova, the coronavirus penetrates the respiratory tract and affects second-order alveocytes. These cells, which are affected, begin to slough off and this cell dies. If a person has a normal immune response, then immune cells come to the site of injury, eliminate the virus, and the person recovers.
“There are cases where the immune response is inadequate. A huge number of immune cells come to the site of injury, which produce a huge amount of cytokines. These cytokines begin to destroy not only the cells affected by the virus, but also all other cells that are located nearby. This causes swelling in the alveoli, ”the doctor said.
Gleb Glebov said that dexamethasone is used for treatment in such cases. Selivanova also added that anticoagulants must be used. Many doctors have already confirmed their effectiveness.
A doctor from Moscow said that she is now working with immunologists to study immune responses and other processes. The pathologist said that she would definitely share her best practices with doctors from Bashkiria.
“You are progressing so far and well, and we are still prescribing ceftriaxone from the first day and are happy, and some other people claim that thanks to this they have been cured,” Glebov shared with his Moscow colleague.

“I take vitamin D, magnesium preparations, zinc preparations, vitamin C. No immunomodulators should be used. However, you cannot advise any specific drugs here, ”the doctor concluded.
