A moral victory which put Saint-Félicien “on the map” and united the population

Although Saint-Félicien lost the Kraft Hockeyville contest to the town of Twillingate, Newfoundland and Labrador, the initiator of the project in the small town believes he has achieved his goal.

“It hurts our heart, but we are not disappointed. We gave everything we had, and I’m super proud of my city and even of Quebec. We had everyone behind us, ”says Éric St-Hilaire.

The contest allowed an NHL team to visit and win $ 250,000 to renovate a sports center, in this case the Marianne St-Gelais Recreation Center. By making it to the final, the Municipality was still able to benefit from $ 25,000 for renovations and $ 10,000 for hockey equipment.

“It’s not a defeat in itself, it gave us a lot of visibility across Canada. We put Saint-Félicien on the map! And in addition, it allowed a whole population to be tightly knit, ”assures the initiator of the project.

Thank the population

In October 2019, Mr. St-Hilaire’s daughter, Anika, was involved in a violent car accident in Lac-Saint-Jean. The Municipality then rolled up its sleeves to support the St-Hilaire family financially and morally during this difficult period.

Touched to the heart by the gesture of his community, the father had entered Saint-Félicien in the Kraft Hockeyville contest to thank her.
