A modern residence for students and young professionals, designed according to Western European standards, opens its doors in Riga

Riga is in no way worse than Paris, London or Berlin – with this idea, the “SHED Co-living Riga” studio-type apartment building for students and young professionals will be opened in Riga very soon, which is a completely new accommodation product for students and young professionals on the Latvian market . The project is located in Mūkusala near the Academic Center of the University of Latvia. This type of housing for students and young professionals is common in many European countries, but it is the first project of this type in Latvia.

Create yourself and your surroundings

“SHED Co-living Riga” will have 240 fully furnished single or double modern studio apartments with private kitchens and bathrooms, but the advantages of this house for students and young professionals do not end beyond the threshold of the room.

Residents have access to a number of different common spaces that are suitable for promoting mutual communication – co-working spaces, a recreation area with the possibility to watch movies, concerts or sports events on a projector, a gym, a cozy yard and a terrace. In addition to the kitchens available in the apartments, residents also have the opportunity to use a spacious and modern shared kitchen, where you can find all the necessary household appliances. Freshly ground coffee and delicious snacks from self-service machines are also available.

For all these facilities and amenities, the residents of the student house do not have to pay extra, as these benefits are included in one month’s rent. Also, various events, lectures, seminars and other activities will be organized regularly, the aim of which is to unite the resident community even more.

“SHED Co-living Riga” is not only a roof over your head, but also a place to fully develop and grow as a person. The name of the project “SHED” symbolizes getting rid of the “old self”, thus encouraging its residents to make changes in their lives: gain new experiences, discover something new for themselves and use all the opportunities life has to offer.

“The purpose of this house for students and young professionals is to ensure that its residents can always feel safe and comfortable, just like at home. But at the same time, we want them to go outside their comfort zone and discover new things, constantly grow and develop ,” says Egle Garniene, general director of the European student housing fund, developer of the “I asset management” project, who also manages the Vilnius and Kaunas student housing complexes.

“SHED” provides all the necessary conditions to create something new, discover new things, find new friends and associates and, of course, create your own life according to your vision. The environment of “SHED Co-living Riga” and all the amenities available here encourage residents to be charismatic, active, and strive to achieve really high goals,” she says.

Western Europe as an example of private student accommodation

According to data provided by Bonard, a market research and consultancy firm specializing in the rental residential property market, the number of student accommodation in Western Europe, particularly in the UK, the Benilux region, France and Germany, is higher on average than in Southern or Central Eastern Europe. , where the development of the accommodation market for students and young professionals has not yet reached its potential.

For example, Paris has a total of 622 student residences and 75,039 student beds available (28% of beds are in private residences), London has 351 student residences and 96,247 beds available (57% of them in private residences), while Berlin has 115 student halls of residence and 21 637 beds, of which 33% are private.

At the same time, 37 student residences and 8,641 beds are available in Riga, of which 979 are in private residences. Compared to the total number of students, which is 62,289 in Riga, beds are available for only 14% of students. Taking into account the influx of young professionals in various industries, the lack of places to live is felt even more acutely, so employers are also actively trying to solve these problems.

Positive impressions of students

The developer of “SHED Co-living Riga” is the Lithuanian asset management company “I asset management”, which owns 50% of the student house “Solo Society” in Kaunas. This student residence is almost identical to “SHED Co-living Vilnius” in Vilnius, on the example of which “SHED Co-living Riga” is also being built. Students who live in “Solo Society” note that staying in a place of this type has not only met, but even exceeded expectations.

“The best thing here is the mix of community and privacy. Unlike other student residences, there is no lack of privacy here, but if you want to communicate with other people, you just have to leave the room. And most importantly, there are suitable places to do it – a gym, a terrace, and so on. I’m relatively quiet, but sometimes I still want to communicate, and it’s important for me to feel comfortable doing so. So this place is perfect for me,” says Kristina, a medical student from Germany.

“Co-working spaces, a roof terrace, a place to store bicycles. What else could you need? You don’t have to share a bathroom with other residents, as is usually the case in dormitories. I think the pros outweigh the cons. I like both communicating with other people in interesting places and hanging out for one. And this place is perfect for both of those things,” says Odinaka, a student living there from Norway.

As Odinaka says, there were some doubts before arriving, but seeing what life is like here, he recommends this type of housing to other students and young professionals who are interested in such an opportunity.

“SHED Co-living Riga” will open its doors to students already this fall. Representatives of the student residence invite you to visit official website and learn more about the project. Reservation of studio-type apartments is already possible, and as the representatives of the project confirm, the number of free places is rapidly decreasing.
