The Ministry of Health reported that Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, Pereira, Bucaramanga, Cali and Barranquilla will have freezers for the storage of Pfizer vaccines. In addition, that the country has already bought 44 freezers.

The Health portfolio announced that “Once the vaccines are in the regional warehouses, according to the determined scheme, distribution is made to each of the local warehouses or to the vaccination points.”

Likewise, it indicated that With a complex logistics of 2,900 vaccination points, 7,920 vaccinators and a capacity to vaccinate 177,200 people per day, the coronavirus vaccine will be taken to each of the 34 million prioritized Colombians. The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was reported to follow the principles of traditional logistics. “From the dispatch point, he arrives by plane bound for El Dorado airport. From there it is lowered into properly prepared containers, taken to the central warehouses of the Ministry and in that same place the process of nationalization of the vaccine is carried out ”.

Said warehouse has around 2,000 m² contemplated in three spaces: a dry area space to store syringes, diluents and medicines; one of freezing with refrigerators from 2 to 8 ° C; and a freezer of 20 ° C used for the polio vaccine, explained the Ministry of Health.

“Vaccination cannot be a mandatory process, but it is a necessary act to protect health. The vaccine immunizes, but also helps the general population in what is called herd immunity. If we all get vaccinated we will acquire that herd immunity “said the Deputy Minister of Public Health and Provision of Services, Luis Alexander Moscoso Osorio.

Finally, it was explained that the Minsalud began to design a very clear information program, with all the issues associated with the vaccine, so that all people have the confidence of its application and the safety of this.
