The officer was pushed to the ground and the chain was pressed against his throat. The incident occurred near Bond Street and Broadway in Manhattan, reported the New York Police Department.
The suspect was arrested and will be charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted strangulation. “Violence, in any form, is unacceptable. We will review this incident and bring other perpetrators to justice,” police said.
The protests in New York, which initially unfolded peacefully, ended with clashes between the police and protesters.
A video posted on Twitter shows officers using their bikes to push public defender Jumaane Williams and members of the press during another confrontation in Lower Manhattan the same night.
