Just before midnight Friday, the emergency services launched a major rescue operation following a report that a person had fallen into the water from a boat that landed on Nes in Tønsberg.
Vestfold inter-municipal fire service (VIB) sent crews from Tønsberg and divers from Larvik.
– Surface savers and rescue divers searched the water. At the same time, the rescue helicopter from Rygge conducted a search with a camera in Husøysund, in addition to being rescue skates in action, says Fire Chief Andrew C. Wright in a Facebook Message.
Husband perished
At 00.26, the divers found a man in the water and he was brought ashore.
– Unfortunately, the incident ended tragically, writes the fire chief.
At 00.46, the South East Police District writes on Twitter that he was confirmed dead.
Beating your head
According to Tønsberg magazine, the accident should have happened in connection with a party.
– There has been a party, and the man must have fallen from the boat, hit his head, and landed in the water. He may have been unconscious when he hit the water, which is probably the cause of a tragic outcome, says operations manager Marianne Mørk.
According to the newspaper, the man in his 40s is from Færder municipality. Relatives are notified.
