A Mallorca lamb with its own Instagram profile

At some point the screaming and mowing that Steffi heard over and over again for two days through her bathroom window in Mallorca was so penetrating and persistent that she could no longer ignore it. The 35-year-old was taken aback. “At first I thought it came from a big sheep,” says the Mallorca resident. It was only when she and her partner Alex were checking on February 21 that the two of them discovered a recently born one in the field of their neighbor near Artà Lamb, which they were later to baptize Lisa. It screamed and did not want to leave the side of the dead ewe. “It was a heartbreaking picture. Beside Lisa’s mother, who must have died giving birth, there was also her dead sibling. The birds had already picked it up, “remembers Steffi.

Since no other sheep from the herd had taken care of the little lamb who was left behind, the two decided in consultation with their landlord, the owner of the fields, to take Lisa in and raise her with the bottle. “It was her rescue – at the last second,” said Steffi. The landlord had helped the two of them catch the excited little lamb and brought them the baby bottles from his children. “Lisa spent the first night on my lap in the rocking chair. All two I gave her a bottle for up to three hours, “says the tour guide, who has lived in Mallorca since 2013 and is currently waiting for the new season to begin.

Your own Instagram profile

The very next day Lisa not only got her own little stable, but also an Instagram profile (lisademallorca). “All of the friends we told us about Lisa said to us: ‘Send some pictures.’ We wanted to keep her up to date with the Instagram profile, “says Alex.” Lisa spreads joy, especially in Corona times. She does a lot of funny things all day long, you can just laugh a lot at her and find everyone she is super cute, “adds Steffi.

Her career in the social network begins with the only sad picture on her profile, a photo from the day she was found. Lisa looks sadly over her dead mother lying on the floor. “Hola! Soy Lisa 🙂 Eres mi mamá? “(Hello! I’m Lisa 🙂 Are you my mom?), One reads in the caption. Then: a video of Lisa’s first breakfast in a bottle from her new parents. The little lamb doesn’t get enough and mows loudly and happily between suckling.

Lisa’s visits to the vet, always with the baby bottle, accompanied her new foster parents with the mobile phone camera. “Lisa was very sickly in the beginning. Every two days we went to my friend’s house, who works as a vet in Cala Ratjada, “says Steffi. Among other things, she prescribed the lamb an antibiotic for its intestinal infection and painkillers, and helped foster it. The lamb suffered from diarrhea for weeks.” We knew that this is very critical with such young lambs and that they can die from it, but at the same time felt a bit helpless, for example with regard to the amount of food, the correct temperature of the mixture of milk powder and water, but also with regard to grooming, “says Alex .

That’s why he also uses the social network and hashtags to get in touch with other foster parents of bottle lambs. Alex followed several profiles and also wrote to some of the people behind them looking for tips. “After all, it is the first lamb that we raise,” says Steffi. A couple who raise several partially rescued sheep on their farm in Germany were of particular help to the emigrants (IG: die_rote_16).

Lisa has long since recovered from her intestinal infection and is happily jumping across Alex and Steffi’s spacious property again. Especially when she hears one of the two coming down the stairs and then the front door slams shut, she comes running up screaming. Then she knows: “My bottle is ready.” Otherwise, the lamb is rather voracious, grazes all day – sometimes in forbidden places. “She is pretty cheeky, knows, for example, that she is not allowed to graze the flowerbed, walks but still there as soon as you don’t look, “says Steffi.

Lisa also likes to show who is the boss of the house when it comes to the garden loungers. “True to the motto ‘If you get up, you have lost your place’, she takes the lounger to herself as soon as you go away for a moment and then relaxes for a while,” says Alex.

The photos and pictures on Instagram also clearly show that the little lamb is very cuddly. “When we drink coffee, for example, Lisa often leans on our feet like a dog,” says the 44-year-old from Stuttgart, who has just taken a break on Mallorca and met Steffi. And then there is Steffi’s cat, Mia Lisa wants to play catch with. “Mia doesn’t think it’s that great, but the two of them come to terms. They now get along well,” says the emigrant.

Who has a sheep to deliver?

Alex and Steffi are currently looking for another sheep to take in so that Lisa cannot grow up lonely, but in a species-appropriate manner. “An older one would be good, because Lisa could still learn something”, says Steffi. “We do our best, but of course we can’t raise them as humans like a real sheep mother,” says Alex.
