A machine extracts water from the air – the discovery of an 82-year-old engineer

Water scarcity is a serious problem around the world. Someone just needs to go to the kitchen, while others have to walk tens of kilometers in search of water.

However, a solution to the water shortage has been found! Enrique Vega, an 82-year-old Spanish engineer, has invented a machine that can extract water from the air, helping people in remote regions or even deserts.

The operating principle of the machine is the same as that of the air conditioner. It uses electricity to cool the surrounding air, but it also condenses water vapor.

The idea came to Vega in the 1990s when his native Spain suffered from drought for five years.

However, Vega’s invention could not work in higher ambient temperatures than 40 ° C, which is common in water-stressed areas such as deserts.

Therefore, he improved the capabilities of the machine and founded Aquaer in 2004 to bring his creation to the world as a promising solution.

The smaller unit can produce 50-70 liters of water per day, while the larger unit produces up to 5,000 liters per day. Reuters.

Water Inception has installed a 500 liters per day machine in a refugee camp near Tripoli, Lebanon. The company is currently raising funds to install solar panels to reduce electrical as well as environmental costs of the process.
