In China, a phone number was bought at auction for $ 300,000. Unbelievable! And yet, there is a reason behind this huge amount: It would be a “lucky” number for the Chinese.
If this phone number has been sold so expensive, it’s because it ends in five 8’s.
The number 8 is considered a lucky charm in China. The word “eight” in Mandarin (a language spoken in China) is a homonym (similarly pronounced word) of the word “prosperity” (good health, favorable situation for oneself). This is the most sought-after number, because traditionally a sign of luck and success.
More than 5,000 people participated in the auction to try to win the issue. It finally took $ 300,000 for its lucky new owner to be able to acquire it (buy it).
Unlike 8, the least popular number is 4, which in Mandarin is pronounced like the word “death”.
