A lot of cleaning up on the coast after storm Odette: “First clear the roads, then it will take weeks afterwards”

In Middelkerke, 20 municipal workers are busy with the clean-up works. They use tractors, bulldozers and trucks for this. “The jobs are cleared first. That should still work today. Afterwards it will take weeks of work. We will then tackle the cycle paths, footpaths and gutters ”, says Van Belleghem.

A second-time resident from Melsele, near Merelbeke, is excavating her car: “Apparently it was still reasonable here, because on the other side it was even worse. The sand sticks to it enormously, it is greasy and salty. The brake discs are also full of sand. Fortunately we don’t have to go that far ”, the woman concludes.
