A hail storm forces the removal of snow plows in the town of Vilafranca in Castellón

  • Tons of ice have clogged the sewers and caused flooding in houses and premises

  • The City Council has had to remove the machines to clean the streets of ice as if it were January

Almost as golf balls. That’s the size ofl hail which fell last Monday in Vilafranca (Castellón). The neighbors are used to heavy snowfall and storms, but they did not imagine that in the middle of June they would see again pass the snowplows through the streets of the town.

But that’s how it has been. Tons of ice stones they have accumulated in the streets of this Castellón town. At first it was thought to leave them and melt, but so much ice the sewers began to collapse causing houses and low premises will be flooded.

The City Council decided take out the snow plows they use in winter (It is an area with frequent snowfalls) to clean the streets.

Many neighbors supported them with shovels, yes in flip-flops and short sleeves because the heat after the storm rose again. In Vilafranca they are used to these radical changes. In summer the storms that leave the street as if it were Christmas are usually common.

The north of Castellón has suffered major storms since the weekend. Hail also in other areas of the Valencian Community such as Requena -Utiel.

Some areas of the Valencian Community continue to be on yellow alert due to rains and storms according to the AEMET.
