Pharmaceutical companies supply quantities of vaccines to European countries, depending on the vaccination coverage in the area in recent years. The lower the vaccination coverage in the population, the fewer new vaccines companies will send. “Now we are trying to persuade us to get more doses to the Czech Republic and we are doing our best for it,” says Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch. He would like to increase the supply of flu vaccines to the Czech Republic to one million.
“It will be a problem for any country that now wants to increase the number or increase the demand for those vaccines, now the problem will actually get those vaccines,” says epidemiologist Rastislav Maďar. Even if a million doses arrive in the Czech Republic, it will not be enough vaccination coverage in the Czech Republic is lower than required by the European Union.
“The desired vaccination coverage would be somewhere between 20 and 30% for the general population, somewhere around 75% for those at-risk groups,” says the Hungarian. The Minister of Health is considering that medical staff should be vaccinated compulsorily. that there should be a certain appeal, perhaps an order within hospitals, for medics to be vaccinated for the flu, “says the minister.
However, the Minister of Health still does not know how many flu vaccines he will actually get to the Czech Republic.
