With a booming pharmaceutical industry and the creation of new faculties of medicine, Morocco is well on its way to achieving its health sovereignty.

The launch of the construction site of the new “Ibn Sina” hospital by His Majesty King Mohammed VI requires a multidimensional reading, as the project carries symbols of a global dynamic. Setting a deadline of 48 months for the realization of a project that is both visionary and titanic, with a covered area of 190,000 m², denotes Morocco’s technical progress and know-how in the management of major construction sites. This futuristic project is much more than a hospital, it integrates an entire health ecosystem with its bricks: latest generation care, quality training to international standards, top-of-the-range logistics with even a helipad, not to mention the cultural component. with a medical museum.
This new haven for Public Health takes on the appearance of a very high-end and very eco-responsible resort area. With a unique and innovative architecture, this one-of-a-kind medical complex will enrich Rabat’s “City of Lights” cachet. Like Avicenna’s lasting contribution to medicine, this project will mark the history of Africa. The realization of this hospital with such a budget and so many technical challenges, especially in the current global economic context, reassures Morocco’s determination and its African leadership. It also reassures on the serious management of the recommendations of the report on the new development model with regard to the sensitive health sector. With the help of the private and the public, the space of Health is enriched through the creation of new regional University Hospitals as well as new faculties of medicine in order to meet the existing deficit.
In addition, new creations are not only appreciated by their number, but also qualitatively with innovative approaches. Thus, the UM6SS launched its first English-speaking medical training last year; similarly, the UM6P plans to start its English-speaking medical faculty this year, in partnership with renowned universities. The pharmaceutical industry in Morocco is also distinguished by efficient factories and major innovations, including the generic treatment for chronic hepatitis B from Pharma 5. In addition, the launch by His Majesty the King at the beginning of the year of the construction in Benslimane of a biotechnology platform for manufacturing vaccines will soon ensure Morocco’s self-sufficiency in this area.
The various initiatives and concrete projects launched by Morocco make it possible to ensure the health security of Moroccans and, in the long term, to contribute to that of Africa. Our healthcare ecosystem is, without a doubt, already a leading example for Africa.
