A fitness center to smash the disease

At 45, Jérôme Fourie, a former banking executive in Luxembourg, decided to change his life. “Too much pressure, worn out, I said stop,” says this Jovicien. I had to find something that I liked. I have two passions, cars and sports. I chose sport. “

His project: the creation of a fitness center. After a market study, he set his sights on Thionville and bought the premises previously occupied by the Bébé 9 sign, route des Romains, in the Linkling area. A space of 720 m2 , called Elancia, dedicated to the return to a sporting activity and labeled “Sport Santé”.

“Since 2017, the sports law on prescription has allowed mutual insurance companies to cover all or part of the subscriptions to sports clubs for patients with serious pathologies, such as diabetes, obesity, cancer, bronchopneumopathy chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or even cardiovascular disease, explains the director. It is a label that is reassessed every year, with inspections, a strict protocol to be respected and the obligation to have coaches trained in health sport. “

A program adapted to the member’s objective

For this project, Jérôme Fourie invested nearly € 800,000, “half of which for the machines”. That is to say 58 state-of-the-art ultra-connected devices, arranged in the different islands (cardio, biking, muscle strengthening, rowing machine, etc.).

Another innovation is that the member will be given a kind of USB key which will collect all of his work data. “This will make it possible to share them with doctors and to see its evolution in relation to the program that has been made for it. But it will also be valid for sports clubs, to make players work for example, and to share information with their respective coaches. “

Each member, whether they have pathologies or just want to get back to practicing a sporting activity, will indeed have the right to an hour-long interview with a state-certified sports coach. “Already to get to know the person, but also to take into account their treatment, if they follow one”, explains Justine Pierron, Prescri’mouv sports health educator. A cardio test is then carried out “to see his physical level and his endurance”. From there is developed a program adapted to the objective of the member, “but which can be reassessed at any time”, she reassures.

“You won’t find mirrors, tank tops, let alone dumbbells here. This is not a place to blow up, ”says Jérôme Fourie, who has set himself the goal of reaching the milestone of 1,500 subscribers in two years. Opening on August 31.
