A first semester under the sign of resilience

Despite the Covid-19 crisis, Maroc Telecom is achieving a first half of 2020 under the sign of resilience. The revenues of the telecoms operator reached 18.32 billion dirhams, up 2.7%, but stable on a comparable basis. “This performance, in a context of crisis, is mainly due to the development of Mobile Data and Mobile Money services internationally and to the growth of Fixed Data in Morocco”, explains the group.

Adjusted net income, group share, reached more than 3 billion dirhams, up 1.5% on a comparable basis. The group’s parks continued to grow (+ 9.1% over one year), reaching 68.4 million at the end of June 2020. This increase is partly due to the integration of Tigo Tchad in the group’s scope since the 1st July 2019. “In an unprecedented context of a global health crisis, the Maroc Telecom group has mobilized strongly to comply with the guidelines of the authorities and meet the expectations of its customers.

The group’s network capacities and infrastructures, which were in great demand during the confinement period, fully responded to the increase in demand and the rise in new uses, without any impact on the quality of service. This health context prompted the group to adopt a broad cost optimization plan, which made it possible to maintain good performance over the half-year despite the first effects of the pandemic, ”said Abdeslam Ahizoune, chairman of the board of Maroc Telecom.

However, “the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic will have probable repercussions on the growth dynamics of Maroc Telecom’s activities”, specifies the telecoms operator, which had to review its outlook for the current year. Maroc Telecom therefore expects a slight drop in its turnover and EBITDA. Its CAPEX (capital expenditure) will be around 10% of turnover, excluding frequencies and licenses.
