A fire generating thick black smoke and preventing any visibility started this Sunday around 6 a.m., in a store in the Acajou area, at the level of the Micro-Force sign.
The firefighters were quickly mobilized on site, calling on several intervention centers (Fort-de-France, Le Lamentin, Rivière-Salée, Saint-Joseph, Schoelcher) as well as two managers on site.
Circumscribed fire
Albert Gabet, the duty officer on site, indicates that it is a fire started on the ground floor of a sheet metal building with metal curtains. At 7:45 a.m., the incident was contained. Two businesses are destroyed: Microforce and Hifi Car.
The firefighters experienced difficulties in intervening because, after having cut off the electricity, the metal curtains did not open. Officials came with keys but failed to raise the curtain.
Another device from the Territorial Fire and Rescue Service finally allowed the firefighters to enter the damaged building and measure the extent of the damage, avoiding a resumption of the fire.
