A fire consumes the protected house of the bridge of A Pasaxe in Oleiros | Radio Coruña

A fire declared this afternoon has consumed the historic house located on one of the banks of the A Pasaxe bridge, in the municipality of Oleiros, and which remained abandoned. The Arteixo firefighters, who received the call at a quarter to nine at night, have declared the fire put out at a quarter past ten tonight.

The fire has caused an impressive smoke and large flames that have threatened an adjoining building, who has had to be evicted. The place have come firefighters of the regional park of Arteixo, in addition to members of the City Council of Oleiros.

The imposing column of smoke could be seen from different parts of the region and from A Coruña. In addition, many people who have gone to the beaches of Oleiros and Sada have been able to see the fire from their cars on their return to the city. The fire has caused significant retentions throughout the environment.

The entire interior of the affected house, with three floors, is made of wood – including a modernist style staircase, which has facilitated the spread of the flames.

Butcher Chalet

The affected house is known as ‘Chalet Butcher’, work of the architect Rafael González Villar, from the year 1916. It is a house cataloged in the General Plan of Municipal Ordination of Oleiros, built by the architect for the Coruña businessman Enrique Carnicero Ríos -they were friends- and that was in a situation of abandonment.

The property, designed by the author of Kiosko Alfonso or Casa Rialeda de Perillo, is affected by the A Pasaxe bridge expansion project, but this action was compatible with its conservation, as recorded in the Environmental Impact Report published by the Government of Spain with the Official State Gazette.
