This is one of the surprises of the ministerial reshuffle of July 4, 2022: at the age of 59, François Braun succeeds Brigitte Bourguignon to become Minister of Health. The Belfortain was until now the head of the emergency department of the CHR of Metz-Thionville. He had also been requested in recent weeks by President Emmanuel Macron to lead the Flash mission, intended to find solutions regarding the critical emergency situation in France. François Braun has never exercised in the city of the Lion, unlike many members of his family.
The descendant of four generations
The name Braun is linked to the medical history of Belfort. It all started in 1914, just before the First World War: the minister’s great-great-uncle is the first Braun to settle in the city. The surgeon founded a clinic there near the station, which later became the Ziegler clinic. Later, his grandfather, initially a general practitioner in Giromagny, moved his practice to Belfort during the Occupation after being dislodged by the Germans. The minister’s great-uncle and father also hold the same position in the city of the Lion.

The minister’s big brother also chose this path. Jean-Bernard-Braun holds the position of head of the emergency department at Belfort hospital for almost 20 years. “We have the feeling that the loop is closedhe reacts to the microphone of France Bleu Belfort-Montbéliard. Barely arrived at the Ministry of Health, François Braun already has two priority projects on the table: this new wave of Covid which is hitting the country, and the critical emergency situation.
