This Friday, a dog died in an overheated car in Bruges, in the parking lot of the Sint-Jan hospital. The Chihuahua, remained alone in the cabin for an hour, in a heatwave. The owner tried to save the animal with wet blankets, but it was not enough.

The owner had partially opened the window while leaving his dog in his car, but that was obviously of no use. The police therefore ask pet owners to pay special attention to their loyal companions with these scorching temperatures.
“The half-open windows don’t really help,” the Bruges “animal police”, an expert in animal welfare, told our colleagues at HLN. “The car in full sun creates a greenhouse effect (…) The capacity (of dogs) to withstand heat is limited”, continues the police.
“Our advice is very simple: do not leave any dog in a car in these temperatures,” says Bart Saelens, member of the specialist team.
