A day to promote the condom … and laugh about it

February 13 is International Condom Day, #InternationalCondomDay. The opportunity to raise awareness of safe sex practices, on the eve of Valentine’s Day: distribution of condoms and free STD testing in several regions of the world. The opportunity, too, to laugh at the many memes relayed on social networks and to listen to the parody of Lizzo’s video clip “Truth Hurts” created by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and renamed “Safer Works” for the event . Online media Forbes meanwhile publishes an article on the fifteen mistakes not to make to celebrate this festive day and recalls that a properly used condom has an efficiency of 98%.

Why are we talking about it. National Condom Day was created in the United States in the late 1980s by an HIV patient support group to promote condom use and educate people about unsafe sex practices. Transformed into an international day since 2009 under the impetus of the AHF, the largest non-profit organization fighting against AIDS in the world, on February 13 has become an innovative and light way of reminding the importance of protecting oneself during intercourse.
