In a few days, a huge asteroid will approach Earth. According to experts, this will be the largest object to fly around our planet this year. In addition, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) ranks it among the potentially dangerous.
An asteroid named 7335 (1989 JA) is expected to fly around Earth on May 27 at a distance of 4,000,000 kilometers. This is almost ten times the average distance from our planet to the Moon.
Plus, it’s not a crumb. According to experts, this is the largest object that will fly around the Earth this year. It has an average of about 1.8 kilometers. It is about twice the size of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the portal writes Daily Mail. It measures 828 meters.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has added it to the list of “potentially dangerous space objects”. However, experts reassure that the object is very unlikely to collide with the Earth.
Scientists estimate that the asteroid moves at a speed of about 76 thousand kilometers per hour. According to the portal ScienceAlert the asteroid should not fly around our planet again until 2055. In addition, the object is one of the Apollo class asteroids.
“Its orbit around the Sun intersects with the orbit of the Earth,” experts explained. Astronomers register about 15,000 such objects.
