Not finished with the Omicron variant COVID-19, now a variant appears Flurona from Israel. Flurona is a double infection or co-infection of the influenza virus and the Corona virus.
A lecturer at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Surabaya, Laura Navika Yamani explains what Flurona is.
“Actually, there is no need to be burdened with circulating issues. Everything is still full of estimates. In addition, the symptoms of COVID-19 and influenza have similarities. It is very likely that this is just public panic in response to all possibilities,” said Laura, Tuesday (18/1). /2022).
Laura added, the influenza virus contained in this new variant of Flurona is a virus that often occurs in Indonesia. But unlike a country that has four seasons, they are ‘unusual’ when it comes to influenza.
“In this case, it is different with the Indonesian people, flu has become a disease that usually occurs when the rainy season arrives. Therefore, there is still no further examination related to flu which coincides with COVID-19,” he explained.
Flurona has similarities with COVID-19 in that it is transmitted through droplets when an infected person breathes, talks, coughs or sneezes. The difference is, influenza is a disease that can occur through airborne transmission and when the seasons change.
Laura said the influenza virus (flu) had indeed become a congenital disease that was often considered ‘normal’. If there was, it would definitely be considered COVID-19 or just influenza.
“Why is that? Because both of them have many similarities which lead to the assumption that someone will only get one of them. For example, the symptom of COVID-19 is that there is a mild flu in it, so how can they be said to be different?,” he said.
For a comparison of the dangers of Flurona and corona virus herself, Laura said more or less the same. It depends on how the individual will cope with the situation.
“If you want to keep Indonesia away from the Flurona disease issue, of course you have to comply with whatever matters are conveyed during the restrictions, for example 3M. In addition, there must also be a healthy lifestyle by each individual,” he concluded.
