A first grader’s math homework, which consisted of a simple statement, has left her mother puzzled, who suspected that the question hid a misleading meaning and took to social media in search of a solution, reports The Mirror.

The woman shared a photo on a Facebook group dedicated to exchanging advice for parents during confinement.

Some participants also had difficulty interpreting the problem, while others suggested a very simple answer.

“I need help please. I think it’s a trick question. How do I explain this to a 6-year-old girl? », The mother wrote next to the image of three starfish and four lockers, with the number 4 inscribed on the one on the left and 18 on the one on the right and the two the middle empty.

“In the three tanks, the smallest number of starfish is 4. The largest number is 18. How many starfish could there be in the middle tank? Indicate two possible answers, “said the problem.

One of the forum members, who apparently did not understand the statement either, wrote: “Thanks for the brain pain, I’m puzzled.”

“Caramba! Why can’t math be simple? Add, multiply, subtract and divide, ”added another.

While other users explained that the exercise only evaluates the concept of minimum and maximum, pointing out that the answer can be any two numbers between 4 and 18.

And they suggested asking the student to find those figures in a ruler and then choose two values from among them.
