A cemetery with 200 bodies and a mass grave were found in liberated Lyman

In Lyman, after its liberation by Ukrainian forces and the departure of Russian troops, a temporary cemetery with 200 graves and a mass grave was found. According to the AP agency, Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said this on Friday on Telegram’s communications network.

Civilians are buried in the cemetery with about 200 individual graves, Kyrylenko said. According to him, the mass grave can contain the bodies of both civilians and soldiers, and the exact number of people buried has yet to be determined.

Kyrylenko also posted photos showing many small wooden crosses and rescuers in white protective suits. According to police reports, the dead included several small children and several families.

A few days ago Moscow admitted the withdrawal of Russian troops from the strategic Lyman in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian media reported the discovery of dozens of graves in Lyman on Wednesday. According to reports from the DPA, some of the victims were reportedly killed during the heavy shelling during Russia’s capture of the village in May.

A temporary cemetery with 440 graves was found in Izjum in mid-September after its release by Ukrainian forces. Most of the bodies belonged to civilians, some of them bore traces of torture. Similar reports of the finds of hastily created cemeteries with civilian bodies or mass graves also came from Ukraine in April, after the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Kiev region, from cities such as Buča or Irpin.
