Where bodies, engines and tires usually come together, there was a celebration on Saturday, September 14th. The Emden Volkswagen plant (VW) celebrated its 60th birthday with a family party. There were 22,000 registrations for the celebration in advance, and the car manufacturer expected 25,000 visitors in the end. Around 30 helpers from the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe from the local associations in Emden, Delmenhorst, Garrel and Oldenburg supported the plant rescue service. Rescue workers from the Johanniter and the plant were on standby in three accident assistance stations (UHS) set up by the Johanniter. The mood was good among the visitors of all ages and the Johanniter had a quiet shift, summarizes manager Julian Kipshagen (Oldenburg). Only a few minor injuries had to be treated per UHS. The day started early for all helpers. The UHS were set up at 6.30 a.m. The people from Emden gathered around an hour beforehand, and colleagues who had to travel further even gathered two hours beforehand. Until the end of the event in the afternoon, the Johanniter offered contact points for visitors with problems and patrolled the factory premises.
