A brawl at the start of Roland Garros. The organizers may have trouble catching the Tennis tournament

Azarenko’s statement is obviously absurd. The conditions for all tennis players in Paris are equal. Is she used to the heat? That’s her problem. The organizers of Roland Garros have more trouble. The weather forecasts are not very optimistic for the coming days.

Tennis players in jackets

In the French capital, it rained on Sunday morning, then stopped, then it rained again and stopped. This can happen every day, which can make it difficult to win the tournament on time. The men’s final is scheduled for October 11, the day before the women’s final. Despite the low temperature and rain, the games were played on several courts on Sunday. Some played in jackets, such as the mentioned Azarenka or Venus Williams.

Psychologist Daria Abramowicz, who is in Paris with Iga Świątek, posted a photo of how she is dressed. Just wait until the next contestants will rebel against game in these conditions.

The weather was predictable

Is confusion at the start Roland Garros was hard to predict? No. One could have suspected that since the tournament was moved from the traditional May / June date to September / October, the risk of unfavorable weather would increase. The change of date was dictated by a pandemic, but was it not possible to play the tournament in, for example, August before the US Open? In New York, the weather is better today than in Paris.

– I wrote a month ago. We resume our tour in Europe and play Roland Garros, then at the US Open to Indian Wells or Miami. Paris is not Romethat the autumn was nice weather – rightly noticed Rafał Smoliński from WP Sportowe Fakty.

Organizers Roland Garros boast that after many years they finally built a roof over the central court. This significantly improves the situation for the best tennis players to play at the Philippe Chatrier court. The others will be forced to deal with what Azarenka is doing. Intermittent meetings may or may not bring surprising results. It’s good that almost all courts in Paris are equipped with lighting from this year. Thanks to this, matches can take place after dark (and this is coming earlier in autumn), as long as it does not rain, of course.

Still complaining about conditions and balls

If the weather disturbed, theoretically the tournament could be moved to the Bercy or Coubertin hall. Rafael Nadal complained about the conditions before the start of Roland Garros. “Fall conditions are a bit extreme to play the tournament outdoors,” Nadal said. For the title defender, the weather and new balls may be the biggest challenge at this year’s Roland Garros.

– The situation is unique. The conditions are probably the toughest for me at Roland Garros, taking into account so many different factors. The balls are different, very slow, heavy. It is also very cold – he added. He is still dissatisfied with the decision of the organizers to change the official balls from Babolat to Wilson. Weather conditions and new balls can make it easier for rivals to deflect his highly rotating strokes.

Iga Świątek, Kamil Majchrzak, Hubert Hurkacz and Magda Linette are to enter the tournament on Monday or Tuesday.
