A bathroom like in New York

Charmed by the contemporary and glamorous style of their suite while staying in a hotel in Manhattan, Lisa and Keith wanted to be inspired by it to design their bathroom in Calgary.

Designers Reena Sotropa and Alanna Dunn lent the couple a hand in renovating and remodeling the room.

They first maximized the space in order to make it functional and easy to live with, like in a hotel. By swapping the whirlpool tub on the podium which took up too much space for a freestanding model, they were able to design a larger shower stall and a vanity unit for two, very well equipped with storage.

To dress up the bathroom and give it the desired style, the designers used a palette of black and white punctuated with brass accents.

Even before the work began, the owner fell in love with the sink faucet with its patinated brass finish. All the hardware and lighting adopt this warm shade, which contrasts beautifully in the black and white universe.

On the floor, hexagonal tiling, on the walls, metro-style tiles. “They highlight each other,” says Reena Sotropa. So that traces of water and dust are hardly visible on the floor, she opted for a matte black finish. For an impeccable finish, all tile joints, with the exception of the shower floor, were made with a charcoal grout.

The glass walls, dressed with metal rods, add a note both chic and industrial which makes the piece unique.

The marble niche breaks the linearity of the tile in the shower and forms the perfect backdrop to showcase the rich finish of the faucet.

Glam elements of the decor, the frameless faceted mirrors, are discreet enough not to steal the show from the faucets and sconces that stand out like jewels against the luminous white background.

As in the hotel, nothing drags, nothing detracts from the overall aesthetic. Everything is stored in the large vanity unit which has many deep drawers.
