UA 42-year-old man died this Sunday while the sixth edition of La Llanera Trail was taking place, the mountain race that takes place in the Valls Occidental region between the Barcelona towns of Sabadell, Castellar del Valls and Sentmenat.
The Sabadell City Council and the Uni Excursionista Sabadell (UES), the organizing entity, have issued a joint statement reporting the death of the runner for causes that are still unknown and that it occurred when he reached kilometer 12 of the race.
“We are sorry to report that, during the development of the Llanera Trail that took place this Sunday between the municipalities of Sabadell, Sentmenat and Castellar del Valls, a participant has died of undetermined causes,” the statement said.
In it, the organizers point out that both the consistory and the UES have decided “jointly to suspend the race and the delivery of trophies” and “deeply” regret the event. “We send our condolences to the family and friends,” the statement added.
La Llanera Trail had 983 participants this year in three categories: marathon, half marathon, as well as a 13-kilometer race.
