A 2nd outbreak of COVID-19 at the Bâtisseurs de Matane causes two deaths | Coronavirus

The first cases of COVID-19 were detected on January 6. Twenty people, including seven employees, were infected with the virus at the height of the outbreak which is drawing to a close, says Kristel Louboutin, vice-president, marketing communications sales at Résidences des Bâtisseurs.

Unfortunately, we must still deplore two deaths, she adds, but in the majority of cases it was people who were either asymptomatic or with mild symptoms. This is the same as what is seen in the general population, so the variant seems to affect positive people less.

Thursday, only one new case was detected, which gives hope that the worst is over, but Ms. Louboutin remains cautious all the same.

She specifies that 100% of employees received two doses of vaccine while 97% of residents are triple vaccinated.

The spokesperson does not know how the virus could have entered the residence.

The vast majority of these contaminations were detected on the care unit side, as was the case during a first outbreak in the fall of 2020. Only one resident outside this closed sector was infected with the virus. .

After a period of isolation, the residents were able to resume their habits and go to have their meals in the dining room.

Management collaborates with the Bas-Saint-Laurent Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) and the Local community service center de Matane to follow up on the situation with the residents. An employee of the Résidence des Bâtisseurs is exclusively dedicated to it.

In Bas-Saint-Laurent, one more patient with COVID-19 entered the hospital in the region since Wednesday. According to Integrated Health and Social Services Center, 25 people, including 2 in intensive care, are hospitalized.

In Gaspésie, six hospitalizations are reported, including a new one.
