A 12-year-old boy found a dinosaur skeleton dating back 69 million years

Nathan Hrushkin was on a picnic with his father in an area known for fossils in Alberta, Canada, in July, when he saw bones sticking out of a rock.

Excavations of the skeleton were completed on Thursday.

Nathan Hrushkin told the BBC that when he saw the bones for the first time, he remained “speechless”: “I was not very excited… I was in great shock, I actually found a dinosaur bone.”

Nathan became interested in dinosaurs since he was six years old, and with his father he often went to the Canada Nature Reserve in Badlands, Alberta.

A year ago, they found small remains of fossils, which his father at the time believed had fallen from rocks above.

So Nathan decided to check out the place this summer. The bones were sticking out on the hillside.

When Nathan called to his father, “Dad, you have to come up here,” the father knew from his son’s tone that he had found something.

His father, Dion Hrushkin, said, “The bones literally appeared to be made of stone.”

“It looked like the end of the thigh bone and was sticking out from the ground.”

Nathan realizes that the excavations are protected by law, so when he returns home, he walks into the site of the Royal Terrell Museum in Alberta, which is concerned with the study of prehistoric life and then asked him to send pictures and coordinates of the site, and he did so.

The “Badlands” is home to fossils, and Joseph Terrell had found a dinosaur in the late nineteenth century, called Albertosaurus.

However, the site where Nathan and his father were walking was not known as a fossil site, so the museum sent a team of experts to excavate.

So far, 30 to 50 pieces of bone have been found, all of them belonging to a young “hadrosaur” dinosaur, aged between three and four years.

The museum said that the dinosaur is very important scientifically, because it was found in a fossil dating back 69 million years, and records from that period are rare.

“The discovery of Nathan and his father will help us bridge this big gap in our knowledge about the evolution of dinosaurs,” said Francois Terrian, Secretary General of the Museum’s Ancient Environment, in a statement.

As for Nathan, the entire process was “imaginary”. He said it would be wonderful to finally see them, after months of work, extract something from the earth. “

And he was in his childhood, like all children, preferred the dinosaur “Tyrannosaurus rex”, but after his discovery, “Hadrosaur” became his favorite.
