LAS VEGAS – Arizona State University wrestling delivered a strong performance at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational this weekend, with five Sun Devils placing in the top eight of their respective weight classes and the team finishing fifth overall in team scoring. The invitational, a premier early-season tournament, showcased ASU’s rising talent and sets a positive trajectory for the remainder of the season.

Heavyweight David Szuba, seeded eighth, led the Sun Devils with a fourth-place finish.Szuba navigated the bracket with a bye in the round of 32, followed by a 13-7 decision over northern Illinois’ Devon Dawson. After a technical fall loss to top-seeded Yonger Bastida of Iowa State, Szuba battled back through the consolation bracket, securing an 8-3 decision over Cornell’s Ashton Davis and a 12-1 major decision over SDSU’s Luke Rasmussen.He then pinned Navy’s Spencer Lanosga in 2:08 before falling to second-seeded Taye Ghadiali in the third-place match.
At 174 pounds, Leo Tukhlynovych went 3-2, reaching the consolation round of eight. He opened with a medical forfeit, followed by a 7-2 decision over Aidan Zarella of Sacred Heart and a 3:28 fall over Enrique Munguia of Rider. Tukhlynovych then secured a 6:24 fall over Dominic Wheatley of Franklin & Marshall before falling to Cash Stewart of Cal Poly in a 14-4 major decision.
Shay Addison (184 pounds) also posted a 2-2 record.He fell to twelfth-seeded James Rowley of Purdue, but rebounded with a 4-2 decision over Cornell’s Christian Hansen, an 8-2 decision over Utah Valley’s Caleb Uhlenhopp, before being defeated 11-10 by ninth-seeded Ceaser Garza.
Max Acciardi (197 pounds) went 0-2, dropping decisions to tenth-seeded Zayne Lehman and ninth-seeded Zyan Hall.
The Sun Devils will resume competition on Saturday, December 20, with a dual meet at wisconsin, scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. MST/1:00 p.m. CST.
