N.J. Weather: Sub-Zero Wind Chills, Temperatures 20 Degrees Below Normal Forecast for Next Week
New Jersey residents shoudl prepare for a meaningful drop in temperatures next week, with wind chill values expected to plunge into the teens and temperatures potentially reaching 20 degrees below normal. The cold snap follows a dry and gradually clearing weekend.
Saturday’s forecast calls for gradually clearing skies and high temperatures in the mid 30s to mid 40s. “Improving weather conditions are then expected as the day progresses,” the National weather Service said. Tonight will be mostly clear early, with high-level clouds filtering in after midnight. Overnight lows will drop to the upper teens to upper 20s across most areas with light winds.
Sunday will remain dry, but a strong cold front will cross the region Sunday night, bringing much colder air and wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph. Monday’s high temperatures will only reach the mid 20s to low 30s, with wind chill values in the teens.
The coldest temperatures are expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, with lows dropping to the upper single digits to lower teens in interior areas and the mid to upper teens elsewhere. Tuesday will remain dry and chilly.
Forecasters are also monitoring the potential for two storm systems later next week. While model guidance shows chances for precipitation from Wednesday through Friday, they don’t anticipate a complete washout. “The long term period is still rather muddled in terms of confidence,” the weather service said.
