Marc Dos Santos Named Head Coach of LAFC
Los Angeles FC (LAFC) announced Friday the appointment of Quebecer Marc Dos Santos as their new head coach. The 48-year-old returns to lead the team after previously serving as an assistant coach and most recently as Steve Cherundolo‘s right-hand man.
Dos Santos is familiar with the LAFC institution, having been an assistant coach during the club’s inaugural season in 2018. He later served as head coach of the Vancouver Whitecaps from 2019-2021. LAFC co-chairman and general manager John Thorrington stated, “Marc understands better than anyone what the best version of LAFC looks like: an entertaining, forward-thinking style of play grounded in ambition, intensity and a collaborative culture that reflects who we are as a club.”
Dos Santos expressed his enthusiasm for the role, noting, “It’s a special club and you feel it as soon as you enter the training center or the stadium…Ambition is evident in the way we approach each day.” He intends to build upon the existing foundations and culture within the team.
Prior to his MLS involvement, Dos Santos began his coaching career with the Trois-Rivières Attak (2007-2008) and served as an assistant with the montreal Impact. He also led his hometown club, the montreal Impact, from 2009 to 2011 before their entry into MLS.
LAFC concluded the 2025 regular season with a 17-9-8 record, finishing third in the Western Conference before being eliminated in the semi-finals by the Vancouver Whitecaps. Cherundolo announced last spring he would not return after the 2025 campaign.
