Östersund, Sweden – The biathlon world Cup season kicked off today with the men’s and women’s sprint races in Östersund, marking the first individual competitions of the winter. Czech athletes are prominently featured, with Lucie Charvátová leading the women’s team and Mikuláš Karlík set to compete in the men’s sprint.
The sprint events serve as an early indicator of form for the season, establishing rankings and qualifying athletes for subsequent races. For the Czech team, these initial performances are crucial for securing advantageous starting positions and building momentum throughout the World Cup circuit. The women’s sprint has already concluded, with strong showings from the Czech contingent, while anticipation builds for the men’s race later this afternoon.
Lucie Charvátová achieved the best result among the Czech women, finishing fourteenth in the sprint despite one shooting error. Markéta Davidová placed twenty-first, and Tereza Voborníková secured twenty-third, all qualifying for Sunday’s pursuit race.
On the men’s side, Mikuláš Karlík, the final Czech competitor, is scheduled to start at 17:10 with bib number 81. He had the most challenging shooting performance of the Czech men in the endurance race, missing four shots and finishing fifty-fourth overall. Joining him will be Mareček (bib 17), hornig (bib 26), Krčmář (bib 40), and Štvrtecký (bib 47).
The men’s 10 km sprint is set to begin at 16:30 local time.
