Meta Acquires AI Startup limitless,Boosting Wearable Tech Ambitions
Meta has announced the acquisition of Limitless,a Denver-based startup specializing in AI-powered audio recording and summarization technology. While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the move signals MetaS continued and aggressive investment in artificial intelligence, particularly as it relates to wearable devices.
Limitless developed a discreet pendant designed to capture and intelligently process conversations and meetings. This technology aligns with Meta’s broader vision, articulated by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, of achieving “superintelligence” and making it widely accessible. Meta is already leveraging AI to improve its core platforms like Facebook and Instagram, and to enhance the functionality of its smart glasses, developed in collaboration with EsilorLuxotica.
“We are excited to welcome the Limitless team to Meta and accelerate our AI growth,” a meta spokesperson confirmed.
Dan Siroker, co-founder and CEO of limitless, echoed this sentiment in a statement released on the company’s website. He emphasized the shared vision of creating AI-powered wearables, stating, “We are no longer working on a futuristic concept; we are actively building the future.”
Limitless had previously secured $33 million in funding,with a recent valuation estimated at $368 million according to PitchBook Group.The acquisition represents Meta’s first meaningful purchase since acquiring virtual reality firm Within Unlimited in 2023, a deal that faced and ultimately overcame antitrust challenges.
This latest acquisition underscores Meta’s commitment to attracting top AI talent, having recently recruited developers from industry leaders like OpenAI, Apple, and Google, and made considerable investments in companies like Scale AI Group.The integration of Limitless’ technology is expected to play a key role in Meta’s ongoing efforts to develop innovative and intelligent wearable experiences.
