Bulldogs Release Halfback Sean O’Sullivan

Belmore, NSW ⁢ – The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have released ‍halfback Sean O’Sullivan from his contract,⁢ effective‍ immediately, the club confirmed ​today. the move comes as the Bulldogs​ prepare ⁢for the 2026 season and beyond, with a developing roster of ‍young​ playmakers vying ‍for positions⁣ in the halves.

O’Sullivan joined the Bulldogs for the current season from the Dolphins, but the ⁢club has opted to release him to create opportunities ‍for emerging​ talents like Lachlan ‌Galvin ⁤and Mitchell ⁢Woods. Cameron Ciraldo,the Bulldogs’ coach,has several options at ‍the number seven position as the team looks to the future. The release ​allows O’Sullivan⁤ to explore other opportunities within the NRL.

The Bulldogs have a number⁣ of halfback prospects,⁢ including Lachlan Galvin, who joined the club mid-2025 from the⁣ Wests Tigers, ‌and youngster Mitchell Woods, who is expected to make his NRL debut in the⁢ coming campaign.Matt Burton is anticipated‌ to feature ‌in ⁢the number six⁤ jersey, though Galvin could also contend for that role.

Simultaneously occurring, the St. george Illawarra Dragons were also reportedly interested in O’Sullivan to bolster their ⁢halves depth⁣ following Lachlan Ilias’s departure to the Gold Coast Titans. Daniel Atkinson, arriving from the Cronulla Sharks, is expected to be given the first opportunity in the Dragons’ number seven jumper, with Kyle Flanagan slated to start at five-eighth. The Dragons have ‌also re-signed rising star Kade‌ Reed, who is considered a key ⁢player for the future of the joint-venture club.
