Comedian Rebecca Corry Sues L.A. Mayor, LAPD for Dogs’ Abuse on Skid Row

Comedian ⁢Rebecca Corry has ⁢filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and the ‌Los ‍Angeles Police Department, alleging animal ‌cruelty and negligence regarding the treatment of dogs in the Skid Row area. ‍The suit claims a pattern ‌of⁢ abuse and unlawful seizure of animals, ‍escalating concerns about animal welfare within the⁣ city’s most vulnerable communities.

The legal action comes amid growing scrutiny of conditions for animals in⁢ Skid Row and follows‍ recent LAPD ⁢operations targeting alleged illegal puppy mills. Corry, a longtime advocate for animal rights, asserts ‍the city’s response has been inadequate and, ‌in some instances, actively harmful to the animals involved. The⁢ outcome of this‌ case could significantly impact how Los Angeles addresses animal welfare issues, notably within its unhoused population, and perhaps lead to revised protocols for animal seizure and care.

According to the lawsuit, Corry alleges mistreatment of dogs during recent LAPD actions. She claims animals were subjected ⁣to unnecessary stress and improper handling during recovery operations. The ⁣suit further contends that the⁤ Los Angeles Animal services, under the management ⁤of Annette Ramirez, failed to adequately protect the animals’ well-being.‍

A spokesperson for Mayor Bass‍ responded to a TMZ⁢ inquiry, stating, “Mayor Bass‌ has ⁢taken ⁢action to investigate allegations of animal cruelty⁣ in Skid‍ Row, with the LAPD recently recovering dogs from an illegal puppy mill in the area.”

The city’s statement further detailed a joint⁣ initiative between the LAPD and Los Angeles Animal Services.”The initiative is a joint effort… aimed at enhancing animal welfare through specialized investigators, multiplying the resources available⁢ to address concerns about animal welfare, while offering basic‍ support to pet owners where needed,” the statement read. “The pilot has launched in ⁢skid Row and will have the potential to expand citywide.”

As of December ‍2, 2025, representatives for the LAPD and ⁤Los Angeles Animal Services had not responded ‍to requests for‌ comment⁤ regarding the specific allegations‍ outlined in⁣ Corry’s lawsuit.
