Writer retires from Wapa TV after 34-year career

Veteran Puerto Rican Sportscaster ⁤Albert​ Cruz Marks Retirement with Final Broadcast ⁤and hall of Fame Honor

San Juan, Puerto Rico – ​After a⁤ distinguished 34-year career in Puerto Rican media, including over ‌three decades with ⁤”NotiCentro,” renowned sportscaster Albert Cruz has officially‌ retired.Cruz shared a photo of his final “ponche” (sign-off) on Wapa Television on his social networks Saturday, a⁣ week after‍ his⁤ last⁤ day on record, November 29th.

“The last punch (November 19,2025,11:15 ‌am) The rest,until the 29th,which was my⁢ last day on record,I took on vacation,”​ Cruz ‍stated.

The proclamation‍ prompted an outpouring of well⁤ wishes from friends and colleagues in the‍ press. Cruz, 68, was recently ⁣inducted into the Guaynabo⁢ Sports Hall‌ of Fame, receiving‍ the​ Rafael Bracero Award for his⁤ contributions to sports journalism.

Fellow communicator Valentin announced last Saturday on social media, “Life is about cycles and for Albert Cruz retirement ​has arrived. More than 30⁤ years⁣ at ‘NotiCentro’ ⁢and more at ⁤the now-defunct San ‍Juan Star.”
