Veteran Puerto Rican Sportscaster Albert Cruz Marks Retirement with Final Broadcast and hall of Fame Honor
San Juan, Puerto Rico – After a distinguished 34-year career in Puerto Rican media, including over three decades with ”NotiCentro,” renowned sportscaster Albert Cruz has officially retired.Cruz shared a photo of his final “ponche” (sign-off) on Wapa Television on his social networks Saturday, a week after his last day on record, November 29th.
“The last punch (November 19,2025,11:15 am) The rest,until the 29th,which was my last day on record,I took on vacation,” Cruz stated.
The proclamation prompted an outpouring of well wishes from friends and colleagues in the press. Cruz, 68, was recently inducted into the Guaynabo Sports Hall of Fame, receiving the Rafael Bracero Award for his contributions to sports journalism.
Fellow communicator Valentin announced last Saturday on social media, “Life is about cycles and for Albert Cruz retirement has arrived. More than 30 years at ‘NotiCentro’ and more at the now-defunct San Juan Star.”
