Maduro Rallies Supporters Amidst Escalating US Pressure, Declares “It is Forbidden to Fail”
CARACAS, Venezuela – Facing mounting external pressure from the United States and widespread domestic discontent, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro addressed a rally of supporters today, framing the moment as a critical juncture demanding unwavering loyalty and resistance. The display of force comes as tensions escalate in the Caribbean Sea following a meaningful US military deployment and increased warnings regarding Venezuelan airspace.
Despite widespread public rejection – with analysts estimating approximately 80% of Venezuelans oppose his regime while 20% remain aligned with Chavismo – Maduro presented a narrative of national unity and defiance. Surrounded by soldiers and national flags, he characterized the current situation as a “historic aggression” requiring a collective defense against what he termed “the threats of the empire.”
The escalating pressure from Washington includes the mobilization of a considerable naval and air force towards the Caribbean, notably featuring the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford. The US has also announced a new operational phase potentially involving covert actions targeting drug trafficking networks linked to the Maduro government. The Federal Aviation Management (FAA) recently issued an alert advising ”extreme caution” when flying over Venezuela and the southern Caribbean Sea due to increased military activity, prompting the suspension of flights by some international carriers.
Maduro denounced the US actions as a “psychological war,” with Diosdado Cabello, Minister of the Interior and a key figure in the Venezuelan government, dismissing US warnings as ”lies and imbecility” that would be met with the “dignity of this people.”
In response to the perceived threat, Venezuelan authorities have declared a state of “maximum planning,” mobilizing armed forces and Bolivarian militias. Concurrently, reports from human rights organizations indicate a rise in internal repression.
Drawing a parallel to the wars of independence lead by Simón Bolívar, Maduro urged his supporters to view the current crisis as a moment requiring similar resolve. “Just as the liberator faced invasions and conspiracies,” he stated, “today Venezuela would be called to resist the US offensive.” He positioned Chavismo as a bulwark against US intervention and sanctions intended, he claims, to destabilize his government.
“The people of America will win together,” Maduro declared, presenting the rally as a demonstration of strength and a signal that his political base remains steadfast. He concluded with a stark message to his followers: “It is forbidden to fail in this decisive juncture.”
