Güstrow, Germany – Investigators continue to probe the death of a young man in Güstrow, focusing on suspect Gina H.,while facing criticism regarding their interrogation tactics and handling of witness testimony.
The mother of the victim, Fabian, has publicly stated she has been questioned by police five times, reporting feeling ”so alone” due to the repeated inquiries. Her lawyer, Christine Habetha, described the repeated interrogations as “an unbearable burden,” adding the mother is only receiving data through media reports. Lead investigator Nowack defended the process, stating investigations are “dynamic” and new evidence necessitates revisiting questions.
Police have confirmed a weapon was used in the crime but have not disclosed its nature, citing the need to protect the integrity of the inquiry - referring to it as “perpetrator knowledge.”
Habetha also criticized investigators for initially delaying interviews with a witness who reportedly observed a suspicious vehicle near the crime scene on the day the body was found and may have recognized the passenger. Nowack responded that pursuing leads based on vague descriptions of vehicles “days after the crime without knowing the license plate” is not a priority.
Authorities have refuted reports circulating in the media regarding prior incidents involving Gina H. A Rostock district spokeswoman confirmed to “Stern” that a report from spring 2024 detailed the burial of a horse belonging to Gina H., not its burning. The horse was subsequently exhumed and properly disposed of, and the case is closed. Habetha maintains her client has no criminal record.
A detention review is scheduled for next week, after which investigators may release further details. Simultaneously occurring, Fabian’s father is reportedly caring for Gina H.’s animals, visiting the property several times daily since her arrest to tend to the horses. Gina H.’s son is currently in the care of youth welfare services.
