Ubisoft Brings ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ to Mac,promises Years of Immersive Gameplay
CUPERTINO,CA – Ubisoft today announced the arrival of its highly anticipated action role-playing game,Assassin’s Creed Shadows,to the Mac platform via the Mac App Store. The game, set in feudal Japan, distinguishes itself with a unique dual-protagonist system and a focus on player choice, offering both stealth-focused and combat-driven gameplay experiences.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows allows players to alternate between Naoe, a master of stealth, and Yasuke, a powerful warrior. Ubisoft team members emphasize the choice is a matter of personal preference – “lethal subtlety vs. brute force,” according to Ubisoft representatives. Players can seamlessly switch between characters at any time, with both growing stronger collaboratively throughout the narrative. Naoe excels at remaining undetected, utilizing shadows and environmental cover, while Yasuke favors direct confrontation. “The masterclass is clearing out a board without being spotted once,” says game designer Bedard.
Beyond the core gameplay, Assassin’s Creed Shadows features a customizable home base called the Hideout, described by creative director Jonathan Dumont as “a place that welcomes you back.” This bucolic rural village offers players a respite from combat, allowing them to manage resources, display collected artwork, upgrade buildings, and interact with a variety of animals, including cats, dogs, and deer. “It’s peaceful. You can say, ‘I feel like putting some trees down, seeing what I collected, upgrading my buildings, and petting the cats,'” Dumont explained. The inclusion of kittens was a high-priority feature, jokingly referred to as a “P1 feature” by associate game director Dany St-Laurent.
Ubisoft believes the game’s strength lies in the connection players will forge with its characters. “I just think the characters work super-well together,” Dumont stated. “It’s an open-world game, yes. But at its core, it features two characters you’ll like. And the game is really about following their journey, connecting with them, exploring their unique mysteries, and seeing how they flow together.”
Looking ahead, Ubisoft intends to support Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Mac for years to come, leveraging advancements in hardware to enhance the immersive experience. “I think the game will scale for years to come on the Mac platform,” said Côté. “Games can be more and more immersive with each new hardware release. We’re trying to create something here where more people can come with day-one games on the Mac, because I think it’s a beautiful platform.”
