Houston Police Serve search Warrant ⁣at Unlicensed Funeral Home

HOUSTON,⁢ Texas (KTRK) – A search ‌warrant‍ was served by Houston Police ⁣at A Community Funeral⁣ Home in the ⁤2500 block of Wheeler Street in the Third Ward area while a funeral service was concluding, authorities said.

The inquiry ⁤centers on allegations of identity⁤ theft impacting families ‌who utilized the funeral‍ home’s services. Police are investigating ⁢whether the business ‌improperly used ⁣personal information provided during contract execution. The funeral home is operating without a licence, a violation of state law, according to Houston ⁤Police lieutenant Larry Crowson. Another funeral home was ‍brought in to complete services for the family whose arrangements were underway.

Officers were⁤ seeking financial⁣ records as part of the investigation, prompted by multiple complaints received by the department. Crowson stated, “Apparently, the funeral home was using‍ whatever information they had when ⁣the contract ‌was executed for the funeral‌ services and ‍that’s ⁢what is going⁤ on right now.”

During the search,no⁣ bodies were found inside the facility, but several boxes of cremains were⁣ present. ⁢The director of‍ the funeral home was detained by police, though ⁢it remains unclear ‍if⁢ the owner will face charges. Court records from Harris County indicate ‍the director ⁤was previously charged wiht forgery ⁣earlier this month.
