Tottenham Manager Ange Postecoglou Emphasizes Player Development Over Blockbuster Signings
London – Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange postecoglou has stated the club will prioritize developing players rather than pursuing expensive, high-profile signings in the manner of rivals like Arsenal, despite recent significant investment. Postecoglou believes sustained success isn’t solely reliant on £60m, £70m, or even £90m transfer fees.
“If you can develop players, not all of them should cost £60m,£70m,£80m,£90m,whatever the amount,” Postecoglou said. “I don’t think anybody has done that. Liverpool didn’t do that to get to the top. Even [Manchester] City hasn’t done that.” He highlighted the importance of identifying and investing in players with potential, citing Declan Rice – who joined Arsenal at age 24 or 25 - as a positive example of strategic recruitment.
Postecoglou affirmed his belief in Tottenham’s existing development capabilities, adding, “You need to be good at developing the players, which I believe we are. You also need to invest in the right potential of a player.” The manager expressed confidence in the backing of the club’s new ownership, the Lewis family, who recently injected £100m into Spurs with further funding expected.
The Lewis family has reportedly assured Postecoglou of their long-term commitment to the club and their desire for success. “They definitely said they are all in for the club, that they want to be here for the long term and they want to have success,” Postecoglou stated.”I’m confident they will back us to do everything we can to build a prosperous club.”
