Ohio state’s Brian Hartline Emerges as Top Candidate for Michigan Head Coaching Position
ANN ARBOR, MI – Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline is considered a leading candidate for the vacant head coaching position at the University of Michigan, sources indicate, as the Wolverines search for a replacement following the departure of Jim Harbaugh. the potential move would represent a significant shift in the rivalry between the two Big Ten powerhouses.
The opening at Michigan comes after Harbaugh accepted the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Chargers, leaving a void at a program he led to a national championship this past season. Hartline, who has rapidly ascended through the coaching ranks at Ohio State, has become a highly sought-after name in the college football landscape.
Hartline began his coaching career at OSU in 2017 as an offensive quality control assistant, progressing to wide receivers coach before being elevated to offensive coordinator. Under Hartline’s guidance, Ohio State leads the FBS in team passing efficiency (185.9) and ranks 11th in points per game (37.5), 12th in yards per offensive play (6.95), and 25th in yards per game (441.3). His success has drawn praise from prominent figures in the coaching world, including former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer.
“I’m a big Brian Hartline fan, always have been… he just needed the experience,” Meyer told Kellyanne Stitts of WSYX6 a little over two weeks ago. ”I’m glad he stayed here; he had a chance to leave. He learned from us and learned from coach day, so I think he’s ready.”
The possibility of Hartline taking the helm at Michigan is already generating significant buzz, given the intense rivalry between the two schools. While other candidates are also being considered, Hartline’s offensive acumen and proven track record make him a strong contender for the position.
